Pogoplug Mobile: Your Own Personal Cloud 19th Oct 2011
Pogoplug Mobile is like iCloud without the cloud, and it works with pretty much any iOS or Android device. The little box sits on your home network and streams content to and from your phone — wherever you are — over the Internet.
The box works with content stored on SD cards or a USB hard drive. Plug them in and any photos, videos or music can be accessed via the Pogoplug app on your phone or tablet. It works the other way, too: any photos and videos you take with your phone are sent back automatically to your home.

Canon has announced a new flagship DSLR, the EOS-1D X. The camera is supposed to take the place of the fast-shooting crop-sensor 1D Mk IV and the multi-megapixel full-frame 1DS Mk III.
The main draw is that you’re getting a full-frame 18MP camera that can shoot at 12fps whilst autofocusing. For comparison, the 1DS does 21 megapixels at 5fps, and the sportier 1D manages 16 megapixels at 10fps.

SAN DIEGO — Samsung wants to place a different sized tablet in every pocket you’ve got.
You’re probably already familiar with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. It’s a bit larger than Apple’s iPad, and best suited for the outer pocket of your laptop bag. Then there’s the newly released 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab, a scaled-down version of its bigger brother. This one’s good for toting in a trenchcoat or perhaps even a sport blazer.

The horseshoe magnet is a curious object. Instantly recognized by just about anyone with eyes, and yet almost never actually seen in real life. It’s a little like the pictograms for landline phones with dials we still see used to represent, well, phones.
Which brings us to Your Magnet, an accessory by Lufdesign which looks — and sticks — like a magnet.

One thing I love about Micro Four Thirds cameras is that you can mount all kinds of lenses on them using simple, cheap adapters. In fact, I’m just about to sell my Nikon D700 because I almost never use it, but I’m keeping my lenses to use on a Panasonic GF1.
But until now, Canon users had to do without aperture control when using lenses on other bodies.

It’s about time.
Apple is hosting its next iPhone event at its Cupertino, California headquarters on Oct. 4. Press invites landed in media inboxes first thing this morning, with a very enticing tag line: “Let’s Talk iPhone.”
Tim Cook is expected to be master of ceremonies at the event now that he is Apple’s CEO. The media event is taking place at Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop HQ, out of the norm from past iPhone events held in the city of San Francisco.

The Raincatch coat is pretty much perfect for the thirsty Briton. The jacket, from the Copenhagen Institute if Interaction Design, catches falling rain and then purifies it, ready for the wearer to drink.
Rain is collected in the collar, from where it runs through a network of tubes to be filtered by charcoal and chemically purified. The resulting clean drinking water is stored on the hips and can be sucked out through another tube.
The project is more symbolic than practical, I guess.

Having just spent a week walking around cities and towns in North Africa, I can tell you a thing or two about carrying a camera in a shoulder bag. It boils down to this: Pain. I took the Gadget Lab Stealth Bag with padding removed, and even then the weight of a Panasonic GF1, a lens and a few sundries cut into my shoulder and cricked my aging back after a few hours.
